If you’re going to take a trip, why not make a real meal of it? Have a glass of fizz as you climb aboard, then the excellent four course dinner starts as we slip our moorings. We cruise downriver past Canary Wharf and Greenwich, turning at the Thames Barrier in time for dessert and coffee. As we head for home and your singer starts the second set, the water sprites can hit the dance floor while the old sea dogs can enjoy an after dinner drink from the bar.

Friday: Take the morning train to London from your local station and on arrival make your way to your chosen hotel for check-in. You’ll have the rest of the afternoon to relax in the hotel’s comfortable facilities or go for a little explore if you like, but no rush, because you’ve got two whole days for that.

Saturday: Breakfast, then the first of your two days in London. There’s so much to do, you’ll hardly know where to start. In fact, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to do a bit of research and planning before you set off, so you can get the best of your time and resources. Unlike most capital cities, London’s galleries and museums are currently free. Don’t forget the highlight of the trip though. You need to be at Westminster Pier by 7.15pm.

Sunday: Dr Johnson couldn’t get tired of London in a lifetime, and you’ve only had one day. Now’s your second chance to browse the shops, or the parks, or the sights. Train departs late afternoon or early evening.
