Clarence House has been a favourite home for many generations of senior royals. It was, perhaps most famously, the London home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother from 1953 until 2002 and was also the home of The Queen, then Princess Elizabeth, and the Duke of Edinburgh following their marriage in 1947. Today Clarence House is the official London residence of The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. Visitors enjoy a guided tour of the five rooms and adjoining spaces on the ground floor, home to a fine collection of 20th century paintings, furniture and treasures, which remain largely as they were in The Queen Mother’s time. The Royal Mews provides road transport for The Queen and members of the Royal Family by both horse-drawn carriage and motor car. It is also one of the finest working stables still in existence, responsible for the training of the Windsor Greys and Cleveland Bays, the horses that pull the royal carriages. State vehicles are housed and maintained at the Royal Mews, and include the carriages used for royal and State occasions, the most dazzling of which is the Gold State Coach used at every coronation since that of George IV in 1821. Since 1843 the daily messenger Brougham has set out from the Royal Mews to collect and deliver post between Buckingham Palace and St James’s Palace. Add in two nights stay in a good quality hotel and some free time for shopping or sightseeing in England’s sparkling capital city, and you are sure to have a right royal time on this superb value 3 day Omega weekend break!
